What Is Botox?

Botox is a neurotoxin which is obtained from the bacteria called “clostridium botulinum”. It is a toxin preventing the release of substances that provide transmission at the nerve endings and it prevents contraction of some muscles in the facial area. Thus, muscles causing wrinkles on the face due to the contraction effect cannot operate temporarily.

Botox is used in plastic surgery to reduce wrinkles on the forehead and face are caused by the movements of mimic muscles and to reduce sweating in the excessively sweating regions. Botox is an easy aesthetic procedure that is used to eliminate wrinkles.

Botox procedure is an appropriate treatment method in order to achieve a young and bright appearance on your face and get rid of these problems that occur with aging.

Why Is Botox Performed?

Botox is a combined treatment method that we recommend to our patients who have problems, especially in the face and neck area. The appropriate age range for botox applications is between 18-65 years old.

Common areas for botox injection:

• Lines around the eyes and crow’s feet,
• Wrinkles and lines on the neck area,
• Deep lines between eyebrows caused by frowning
• Forehead lines

In addition to these areas, we have successful results with botox applications for the treatment of involuntary muscular contraction on eyelids, tic disorders, neck lift aesthetics which is also called Nefertiti, and for chronic headache and migraine treatment, nasal edges which are called bunny lines, nasal tip lift, brow lift, armpit, and hand sweating.

Who Are Suitable for Botox?

Botox for aesthetic purposes can be applied to almost everyone between the ages of 18-65 who do not have any health problems or allergies. It is not applied and not suitable for pregnant and breastfeeding women.

In the botox procedure, our goal is to reduce existing wrinkles and prepare an environment to prevent the formation of new wrinkles. Because botox may not be useful alone if the existing wrinkles are deep. Fillers injection (with collagen or fat injection) may be necessary for deep wrinkles in addition to botox application. Accordingly, the final decision is made after the skin examination.

Botox treatment must be applied very carefully especially for those who have muscular and nerve conduction disease. In addition, botox should not be applied to those who have coagulation problems, those who have the infection during the application period, and re-planning should be done by following the process.

Botox is not done during the use of some special drugs. For this reason, you should tell us about all your diseases and medicines you are using with their doses during the first consultation before botox treatment is performed.

What Are the Types of Botox Aesthetics?

• Baby Botox

Baby botox is the botox method that prevents the face to look pale, reduces wrinkles, and allows mimics to move. In this method, low dose injection is used. Thus, both the mimics stay alive enough to move naturally and the skin does not wrinkle. It takes about 15 minutes.

• Minimal Botox

In the minimal botox method, an individual botox design is prepared which is special for each person. Here, the person’s facial expression, age, and skin condition are taken into consideration.

• Preventative Botox

Preventative Botox is a method that protects the skin against aging. Botox applications made from a relatively early age are of great importance in order to prevent wrinkles. In this way, the face is protected without being deformed. Preventative Botox is applied in a minimal dose and it does not cause any loss of mimic.

• Masseter Botox

Masseter botox is an application where the muscles in the lower part of the face are thinned by injection. This botox method is used to treat deformities in the lower part of the face or deformities coming from the past. A proportional face shape is obtained with this method by shrinking square faces.

• Nefertiti Botox

Nefertiti Botox, which has a rejuvenating effect, is applied to the extremely sensitive chin and neckline. It is preferred to reshape the chin and soften the necklines. The sagging skin is lifted upwards and tightened. The application area becomes brighter and aesthetic touch is realized.

Operation Period

Botox is an injection procedure applied with needles. At least 20 minutes before the botox application, the pre-determined application area is anesthetized with a local anesthetic cream and it is expected to until complete anesthesia takes place in the region. Afterward, application areas are hygienically sterilized, the botox mixture to be injected is injected into the facial muscles in small doses with fine needles. The whole process takes about 10-15 minutes. No scar remains on the face. Cold compress is applied to the needle areas.

Recovery Period

Botox disrupts the communication between nerve and muscle, that is, mimic commands transmitted to the muscles by the nerve are blocked. Thus, the muscle temporarily stops contracting and the mimic lines that occur due to the contraction are also lightened. Therefore, its main purpose is to eliminate wrinkles on the skin.

Since botox is not a filler material, it does not cause swelling or fullness in the injection area. Lines and wrinkles are reduced with the relaxation of muscles in the injection area, and the face begins to look brighter and revitalized.

Botox starts to show its effect about 3-4 days after the procedure is performed, and it takes 7-10 days to see the final result. This period may vary from person to person, due to many factors such as skin structure, age, and smoking. In addition, the applied dose may cause a difference and it is very important.

What Are the Risks?

Botox is applied for both aesthetic and treatment purposes. Hygiene and the use of appropriate equipment are important for botox that is an extremely safe method. In addition, the person who will perform the application must definitely be a specialist and experienced doctor. Botox does not have a permanent side effect which is known and experienced.

However, although it is seen very rarely, there is a possibility of temporary tissue damage and loss of sensation. Again, in rare cases, eyelid drooping may occur, but this is a temporary situation. Bleeding and subsequent bruising may also occur when the needle tip comes across a small capillary vessel during the injection. These bruises disappear within a few days. It should never be forgotten that it is extremely important to choose a physician who is experienced and expert in his/her job, as in every aesthetic practice.
