Dark circles under the eyes are caused by blood pooling in the area as a result of the capillaries, the small blood vessels under the eyes, leaking blood under the skin. Under-eye bruising is characterized by a dark color of the skin in the area, resembling bluish. Swelling under the eyes and dilated veins can cause this condition for various reasons. This cosmetic problem can develop due to fatigue, allergic conditions, stress, excessive alcohol consumption and side effects of certain medications. Dark circles under the eyes often cause people to experience aesthetic concerns.
Dark circles under the eyes can be caused by many different reasons, from genetic predisposition to fatigue. As blood collects in the veins under the thin under-eye skin and accumulates around the eyes, swelling may occur in addition to bruising. This can lead to discomfort-reducing conditions such as difficulty in opening the eyelids, temporary visual impairment, eye and headaches.
In some people, dark circles under the eyes may go beyond cosmetic discomfort and reach a level that causes disruption of social life. Under-eye bags and bruises may occur due to the negative factors brought about by a stressful life and intense work tempo. Looking too much at technological devices such as computers, phones and televisions, not getting enough rest, sleeping too little and being exposed to stress can cause dark circles under the eyes. In addition to these, dark circles under the eyes may also develop due to genetic predisposition and aging.
Do Dark Circles Under the Eyes Increase with Age?
The most common cause of dark circles under the eyes is the natural aging process. With the natural aging process, it starts to become looser. It also tends to wrinkle and sag. In addition, the muscles and tissues around the eyes begin to weaken. As the fat surrounding the eye area comes out, bruises that look like bubbles may form later on.
Who Has Dark Circles Under the Eyes?
As the natural fat tissue in the body decreases with the natural aging process, the skin around the eyes becomes thinner. For this reason, dark circles under the eyes are usually more prominent in older people. The pits that occur under the eyes cause a darker appearance under the eyes of the person.
The darker skin color of the person may cause bruises under the eyes to appear more noticeable. People with dark skin color usually have a higher genetic predisposition to dark circles under the eyes.

Under Eye Bruises Treatment
Under-eye light filling is often used to treat dark circles under the eyes. Hyaluronic acid-based fillers injected into the designated points in the under-eye area provide a brighter reflection of light from a flatter surface. It is a procedure that should be performed by specialized and experienced doctors who have a high level of anatomical control over the eye area. Although it is a method that provides extremely reliable and effective results, it can cause lifelong permanent puffiness and a bluish color reflection, especially if superficial application is performed.
Filler application is not performed if there are prominent fat bags in the lower eyelid, lid laxity or significant loss of elasticity in the skin. Because filling application may cause existing problems to become more prominent. Making this distinction depends on the expertise and experience of the plastic surgeon. Therefore, care should be taken in choosing a plastic surgeon.
