Eyebrows, as one of the most important structures on the human face, directly affect the gaze, facial expressions and facial expressions. Different eyebrow shapes can cause the face to gain angry, happy, confused, tired, or sad expressions. The sagging of the eyebrows, on the other hand, causes some drooping of the eyelids, which can make the face look older.
The first effects of aging on the body appear when the skin begins to lose its elasticity. Wrinkles and sagging occur in many different parts of the body, especially in the face area. The signs of aging on the face are usually first seen in the forehead and eyebrow area. The drooping of the eyebrows and upper eyelids may accumulate over the eyes and make vision difficult over time. The resulting sagging may cause a nervous, tense or tired appearance as the eyebrows greatly affect the facial expression.
The most effective method to remove this unwanted expression is the eyebrow lifting procedure. With eyebrow lifting, the area is rejuvenated by bringing the eyebrows to their normal shape and angle in order to give the eyes and forehead area a much more energetic and vigorous appearance. The brow lift procedure plays an important role in making the patient have a more charismatic and impressive appearance by changing the gaze and facial expressions of the individual.
Brow Lift Can Be Performed with Different Techniques
Eyebrow lift can be applied with methods that require or do not require surgical procedure as a result of the evaluations made according to the needs of the patient. While the surgical methods applied for eyebrow lifting include eyebrow suspension, endoscopic eyebrow lifting and classical eyebrow lifting, Botox procedure can be applied when a non-surgical method is preferred.
Endoscopic brow lift surgery is performed very frequently today and is performed using thin small cameras, also called endoscopes. It is a scar-free and incision-free surgical procedure. For endoscopic eyebrow lifting, small holes are made at several different points in the inner part of the scalp. Since there is almost no bleeding in this area, scar formation does not occur in this method. In addition, due to less swelling, the healing process is shorter and more comfortable. Although the eyebrow shape given by the endoscopic method is permanent, over time, the eyebrows will go down a little due to the sagging of the entire forehead.
In temple lift surgery, also known as classical eyebrow lifting, some scalp is removed from the patient’s temple and the procedure is completed after the area is stretched. Temporary lift surgery is generally recommended for people aged 35 and over. The reason for this is to open the crow’s feet and shape the middle face with temple stretching surgery.
In the eyebrow suspension method, a small hole is made from the front border of the hairline. Special strands are passed through the hole and hung after the desired positions are achieved.
What Should Be Done Before and After the Brow Lift Procedure?
The most important step before the eyebrow lift application is to determine the ideal eyebrow type for the patient’s face and to determine the most accurate method to achieve this appearance. Since everyone’s face shape and appearance are different, the suitability of the eyebrow shape preferred by the patient for the face should be carefully evaluated. The patient should be informed about the appearance to be obtained after the brow lift operation.
Since smoking may adversely affect the healing process of the wound, it should be discontinued one week before the surgery. Again, 2 weeks before the operation, aspirin and its derivatives, herbal medicines and vitamin tablets with blood thinning properties should be discontinued.
After brow lift surgery, tape and dressing are applied to the area around the eyebrows and forehead. A cold compress should be applied to the forehead area in order for the edema to be reduced more quickly. Although swelling is normal after surgery, it usually resolves spontaneously at the end of the first week. Patients may have difficulty moving their eyebrows and forehead for a certain period of time after eyebrow lift surgery, and it is possible to experience numbness in the forehead area.
It is recommended to take antibiotics to prevent a possible infection after the brow lift operation. Simple painkillers can also be taken for mild aches and pains that may occur. It is recommended that the patient lie down for a certain period of time after the surgery with their head elevated above the heart level. Generally, light exercises can be started within a week, but it is necessary to wait up to 3 weeks before starting heavy exercises.
Bleeding and infection can be among the possible complications after brow lift surgery, as it can happen after any surgery. The use of a meticulous surgical technique during the operation, the correct and adequate control of bleeding, and the protection of the high blood circulation of the head and neck region greatly eliminate the risk of infection. Great sensitivity should be shown during the surgery to avoid the occurrence of nerve damage, which is rare in the face area. While working on the forehead and temple area, there may be damage to the frontal nerve, which allows the eyebrows to rise, and damage to the sensory nerves that provide the sensation of the forehead and scalp. For this reason, great sensitivity should be shown to the expertise and experience of the doctor who will perform the operation.
