Liposuction, which is extremely popular among regional slimming methods, is very effective for people who have fat deposits in certain parts of the body that are resistant to regular sports and diet. In the liposuction method, resistant adipose tissue is removed from people who are determined to be suitable for application. With the liposuction procedure, it is aimed to gain a more aesthetic appearance of the patient’s body and to remove the uncomfortable fats accumulated in certain areas. Liposuction can be applied in many different areas of the body where there are resistant fat deposits, especially in the hips, waist, and abdomen.

Subcutaneous adipose tissue in the human body does not have equal density in every part of the body. It may differ depending on hormonal and genetic factors. Liposuction is a very effective procedure and can be applied with different techniques in people with persistent regional fat despite having normal or close to normal weight. In the classical liposuction method, 3-5 mm incisions are made at the determined points in the area where the application will be made. A special solution is injected into the fat tissue in the area through the opened incisions. Fats that are desired to be broken down and taken out of the body become liquid with the effect of the injected solution. Fats that are connected to a vacuum pump and liquefied using specially designed cannulas are taken from the application area.

In the Vaser liposuction method, which is performed using the Vaser device, unlike classical liposuction, excess fat deposits in the body are liquefied using ultrasonic sound waves. The liquefied fats are then expelled through cannulas. Vaser liposuction method does not carry the risk of damaging nerves and vessels due to the way it is applied and the structure of the cannulas used. After the operation, bruising, edema and swelling are much less common compared to the classical liposuction method. In addition, the method that tightens the skin is less likely to cause sagging. Since the vessels are not damaged during the application, conditions such as bleeding and bruising are rarely seen.

Whom is Liposuction Applied to?

The liposuction method, which is applied to remove stubborn fat deposits in the body, has the effect of increasing the self-confidence and quality of life of the patients. The liposuction method can be applied to almost everyone who does not have any health problems, who are not during pregnancy and breastfeeding, who have normal or close to normal weight, and who have regional adiposity that is resistant to sports and diet. Age is not a determinant in liposuction, and the evaluation is made on an individual basis. However, due to the loss of skin elasticity with advancing age, it is possible that additional operations such as skin stretching may be needed in order to obtain effective results from liposuction.

Liposuction is a procedure that can be applied to both men and women. For women, it can be applied to areas such as the abdomen, hips, waist, back, jowl, ankles, underarms, inner and upper parts of the legs and inside the knees. For men, it is generally preferred to apply the liposuction procedure to the waist circumference, abdomen and jowl region.

Are Liposuction Results Permanent?

The most important thing to remember about liposuction is that it is not a weight loss method. Liposuction is basically a body shaping procedure. It is applied for the purpose of thinning and reshaping the body by removing excess fat that occurs in certain areas. Although the results obtained after the liposuction method are permanent, it is important for the patient to be careful about weight control. Since the number of fat cells in the body does not increase after a certain age, new fat cells do not occur in the areas where liposuction is applied. However, an undesirable situation such as enlargement of fat cells may occur. For this reason, patients should exercise regularly and follow a balanced diet after the liposuction procedure.

What Should Be Considered After Liposuction Application?

After the liposuction procedure, it is recommended that the patient stand up and move as much as possible on the same day in order to experience a rapid recovery period. It is accepted that the application of lymph drainage massage in the pre- and post-operative period has an accelerating effect on the healing process.

It is considered normal to feel a certain amount of pain in the 3-4 days after the application. The pain felt is usually at a level that can be relieved by taking simple painkillers prescribed by the doctor. In the liposuction procedure, minimal incisions are made so that the cannulas can be inserted at certain points in the application area. At the end of the application, these incisions are closed by suturing. These stitches are usually removed after a week.

Patients who have undergone the liposuction procedure can return to work 3-7 days after the application under normal conditions. However, after the application, a period of 3-4 weeks is needed for the body to fully recover and start to take shape better. During this period, it is very important for the patient to use a sports corset.

Although patients are required to walk for 45 minutes a day 2 weeks after the procedure, doctor’s approval must be obtained as this may vary depending on the individual healing process. It is generally recommended to wait at least 6 weeks before starting heavy sports. Swelling and stiffness that may occur after the surgery will resolve spontaneously within an average of 2 months. During this time, cold massage or lymphatic drainage massage is an effective method. It takes an average of 6-9 months for patients to fully recover after the liposuction procedure and to fully observe the effects of the procedure.
