What is liposuction and which areas it is applied to are one of the curiosity questions of many people who complain about their weight. Although liposuction is not a weight-related health problem like obesity, it is a regional fat removal procedure that can be applied to people who are resistant to diet and sports and have persistent regional adiposity. Liposuction helps to get rid of stubborn fat that remains in the body despite regular diet and sports. However, it should not be misconstrued that liposuction is a weight loss method. With liposuction, stubborn regional fats are removed and a healthier and more aesthetic appearance is achieved in these areas. Liposuction is a method that has been applied for a long time and is one of the aesthetic applications that attract attention among both men and women.
Whom is Liposuction Applied to?
Although liposuction can be applied to almost everyone except women who have just given birth or are pregnant, the evaluation for the suitability of the operation should be made on an individual basis. Since the regional excess fat is removed with the liposuction method, it is very important that the skin of the person does not have cracks and sagging. Otherwise, this situation may become more pronounced after liposuction. It is not possible to obtain effective results because there will be a great loss in the elasticity of the abdominal region of people who have given birth in large numbers. For these reasons, it is not recommended to apply the liposuction method to people who are older and have decreased skin elasticity.
The most effective results with the liposuction method are generally obtained in women who have not given birth more than once, who are close to their ideal weight, and men who are of normal weight and want to get rid of fat in their waist.
How is Liposuction Applied?
Liposuction, which is used to remove stubborn fat that cannot be removed from the body despite regular diet and sports, can be applied with different methods. With the use of these methods, it is aimed to make the fats to be taken more slippery and soft. Then 1-2 mm incisions are made. Fat is taken from the determined area through 2-3 mm cannulas. In some cases, the cannulas are attached to the vacuum instruments and the fats are drawn in this way. In some cases, fat is removed by using cannulas manually. Liposuction can be completed in half an hour to 6 hours, depending on the size of the application area and the amount of fat to be removed.
The wet technique is one of the most commonly used liposuction methods. In this technique, the liquid is injected into the fat cells in the body, and there are drugs in the liquid that have the ability to stop bleeding and relieve pain. The cells are filled with this liquid and the fat is withdrawn with the help of cannulas connected to the vacuum device.
In the ultrasonic liposuction method, the area to be treated is reached through small pipes. Ultrasonic waves sent through the pipes cause the fat cells in the area to vibrate and soften. It is much easier to remove the softened fats from the body and the process is completed by removing the fats with the help of a vacuum.
In the laser liposuction method, laser beams are sent to the area where there is fat using thin pipes. When the laser beams liquefy the solid fat cells, the liquefied fat cells are taken out through much smaller cannulas than those normally used.
For Which Areas Is Liposuction Applied?
Liposuction can be applied to almost any area that is needed individually. Liposuction application on the lower part of the hips and the front of the legs can cause collapse and a bad appearance. For this reason, liposuction is not applied to these areas.
Liposuction can be applied to the abdomen, waist, hips, inner and upper parts of the legs, jowl, back, inside of the knees, ankles and underarms in women. In men, the liposuction method is generally applied to the waist circumference, abdomen and jowl area.
Liposuction is performed under local or general anesthesia, and this decision is made on a case-by-case basis, depending on the size of the application area and the amount of fat to be removed. In laser liposuction application, general anesthesia is generally preferred and the patient is kept under supervision in the hospital for one night. After the applications under local anesthesia, the patient is rested for a few hours. If no complications are encountered, the patient is discharged on the same day.
On the day of the liposuction application, the patient gets up and moves a lot, which accelerates the healing process. In addition, lymph drainage massage before and after the surgery with the approval of the doctor may also have an effect on the acceleration of the healing process.
Slight pain may be felt for 3-4 days after the operation. The use of painkillers recommended by the doctor can be an effective solution to relieve these pains. Leakage may occur for 12-24 hours after the application from the areas where the fat is removed. Edema formation in the first 48 hours is a natural condition. It is beneficial to rest, especially for the first 2 days. After the application, the sutures placed at the entrance of the cannula are usually removed one week later, and the patients can return to work 3-7 days after the application.
After liposuction, a sports corset should be used for 3 weeks in order for the body to recover in a short time and gain a better form. Patients can start walking for 45 minutes a day 2 weeks after the surgery. However, at least 6 weeks should be waited to start heavy sports. Swelling and stiffness that occur after the application resolve spontaneously in about 2 months.
