Liposuction, which is a procedure applied to remove the existing fat tissue in people who have persistent fat problems in certain areas despite regular sports and diet, is one of the most preferred regional slimming methods. Liposuction, also known as fat suction or fat removal method, is applied to give the body a more aesthetic appearance and to remove excess fat in the areas where the patient is uncomfortable. Liposuction can be applied as a result of patient-specific evaluations in many different areas where fat is seen in the body, especially in the abdomen, hips, waist and hips.
How to Perform Liposuction?
Thanks to this method, which is applied to remove the regional fat tissues that occur due to weight gain, it is ensured that the self-confidence of the person increases and the quality of life increases.
Liposuction can be applied with more than one technique, and in the classical liposuction method, 1-2 mm incisions are made in the area where the fat will be removed. After the fats are melted by the methods used, the melted or fragmented fats are drawn by vacuuming using thin cannulas or injectors.
In the laser-assisted liposuction method, the fats melted by laser beams are vacuumed out of the body through thin cannulas.
In the laser lipolysis method, on the other hand, after the laser disintegration process, the fats are not taken out, but their metabolic removal by the liver and kidneys is expected. This method is generally applied to remove fat deposits in small areas such as the armpits or under the chin.
Before starting the liposuction application, the area where the fat will be removed is marked. To alleviate the pain in the application area, a liquid solution containing anti-bleeding and pain-relieving drugs is injected into the area. After 1-2 mm incisions are made on the skin, cannulas are placed in the fatty area. Partially liquefied fat is sucked in through cannulas connected to the vacuum machine. In order to break up the fat and drain it as quickly as possible, the vacuum pipe is moved to the surface and the fat intake is completed. The incisions are left open for a while in order for the liquid formed in the application area to flow out and to prevent edema formation, but then the incisions are stitched and the area is tightly bandaged.
Who Are Eligible for Liposuction?
Liposuction is not a weight loss method. For this reason, people who have weight problems other than regional resistant fat should first get rid of their excess weight with a controlled diet and exercise program. However, after this process, it may be possible to apply the liposuction method to remove stubborn excess fat that cannot be removed with a regular diet and exercise program. Although there is no upper age limit in liposuction application, the suitability of patients over a certain age for liposuction should be evaluated individually, as aging may cause a decrease in the elasticity of the skin.
In addition, the people who will be applied liposuction should not have a systemic health problem, should not be in the pregnancy period and should not have given birth recently. Liposuction is a method that is frequently applied to people with disproportionate fat distribution and regional stubborn fat deposits.
Curiosities About Liposuction
Before the liposuction application, the patient should inform the doctor about any disease and regular medications, if any. Smoking and alcohol consumption should be stopped 2 weeks before the procedure and the nutrition program recommended by the specialist should be applied.
With liposuction, it is possible to remove a high amount of adipose tissue and to remove an average of 8-10 kg of fat from the body in one session. However, taking such a high amount of fat is not recommended as it may cause deterioration of body balance. The application is usually done by removing at most 2/3 of the existing fat amount.
Liposuction can be applied to people over the age of 18 who do not have an obstacle to the operation. The duration of the procedure may vary depending on the area where the application will be made and the amount of fat to be taken from the patient. Although operations in small areas are usually completed in 45-60 minutes, liposuction can be completed in 5-6 hours in different areas.
Although complete recovery takes place in about a month after liposuction, patients generally resume their normal life cycles within 10-15 days. However, following the doctor’s recommendations completely after the application is very effective in accelerating the healing process.
Since it is an application performed by making an incision, there is a small scar after liposuction. However, with the completion of the healing with the advancing time, the scar becomes almost indistinct. The smaller the incision is, the less visible the scar will be.
Liposuction is considered to be an ideal application that plays an important role in achieving the desired body form for people who are close to their ideal weight, but have resistant fat accumulations in their bodies. Liposuction can be applied in different areas of the body where there is resistant fat accumulation. In the case of large areas, it is generally recommended to repeat the application every 3-6 months. However, if the patient does not pay attention to his/her diet and does not exercise regularly after liposuction, regional fat formation may occur again. Liposuction is an application that can be repeated in people who have fat again in the area where fat was removed before.
