Hair transplantation is a medical operation, and like with any surgical surgery, there is a recovery period following the procedure. The most typical symptoms that people experience during this procedure are numbness and discomfort. The anaesthetic used during the treatment causes drowsiness, and the length of time it lasts varies from patient to patient. The numbness that follows hair transplantation usually goes gone within the first 24 hours. Tenderness may be an unusual occurrence for certain people. Numbness may last for 2 to 6 months after hair transplantation in this situation.
The anaesthetic used to ensure the patient’s comfort during the transplantation surgery is the cause of numbness following hair transplantation. Local anesthetic is administered to a single region to numb the skin and prevent the person from feeling pain, and numbness is felt in that area. There’s no need to be concerned because numbness following hair transplantation is just transient. Itching, tingling, and stinging sensations are all signs of numbness. Monitoring the hair and the process after it may be considered among the variables that will boost the patient’s comfort because these are also evidence that the patient is recuperating.
After hair transplantation, the sensation of numbness can vary from person to person. The bodies of some persons are more susceptible to anesthetic than others. As a result, the duration of action of the anesthetic agent after application may alter in order to improve the comfort of the hair transplant surgery. Lethargy following a hair transplant is totally normal and should be allowed to pass on its own.
Due to lack of feeling in the transplantation and donor areas, the person may not feel anything for a few days following hair transplantation. The presence of itching on the scalp over time indicates that the numbness has subsided. Although this circumstance may cause some discomfort, it should be seen as a sign that the anaesthetic has worn off.
Transplanting your hair is not a painful procedure.
Hair transplantation is a treatment that is not painful. This does not, however, imply that there is no discomfort. Fortunately, any discomfort experienced following hair transplantation is just transient.
Many people have post-operative pain following a hair transplant treatment. The reason for this is that during the hair transplanting procedure, the peripheral nerves are cut while harvesting the strip.
Hair transplantation pain often lasts a few days. For the next few days, you might feel a little uneasy. However, it is uncommon to experience pain for more than 3-4 days.
Pain medicines given by the doctor might be used after the hair transplant process to help with the pain. In addition, the method used for hair transplantation can influence the level of discomfort experienced. The discomfort is greater with the approach in which the hair is entirely taken from the healthy area, along with the scalp, and transplanted to the area with hair loss. It might potentially take longer to vanish.
Care Following Hair Transplantation
If the best outcomes from the hair transplantation procedure are sought, the healing phase should be given special attention.
After the hair transplant process, it should not be ingested with alcoholic drinks for 3 days. Alcohol, on the other hand, can thin the blood and induce bleeding. Vitamins, aspirin, and other blood-thinning medications should never be used together.
Patients may be administered medicine following the hair transplant process to avoid swelling and infection, as well as to ease any discomfort that may develop. The usage of these medications on a regular basis has a good impact on the healing process.
Running, cycling, weight lifting, and sports like baseball, football, and golf should all be avoided for at least three days after surgery. If activity is not restricted during this critical period, severe edema, hemorrhage, and graft loss may ensue around the eyes and forehead. As a result, it’s important to avoid strenuous physical activity for the first week after surgery.
You should not bend forward or conduct heavy lifting for at least 48 hours following surgery to avoid bleeding and severe edema. The head and body should be maintained above the level of the heart at this period, especially while sleeping.
Minor bleeding at one or more graft sites may occur in rare circumstances. In this scenario, a wet and clean towel should be used to apply mild pressure to the affected region for 5 to 10 minutes. During this period, however, it is important to avoid deteriorating the surrounding grafts.
Ice compresses should be administered to the suture line region in the donor location for 10 minutes every hour for three days. After putting gauze to the affected region, an ice pack should be applied. Ice compresses should not be applied immediately to the hair transplant treatment area. Instead, apply cold compresses to the forehead for 10 minutes every hour for three days.
Swelling may develop following the hair transplant treatment in rare situations. Swelling, which generally begins on the forehead and extends across the bridge of the nose, subsides in 48 to 72 hours on average. A couple cushions should be used to support the head and upper torso during the first 3-4 days. This is a good way to keep your forehead from bulging.
After the procedure has been authorized by the doctor, the shampoo should be foamed in the palm and carefully applied to the donor and grafted areas when washing the hair. Cold water and light water pressure should be used to rinse hair.
After 24-72 hours, the crusts that develop in the graft region break off in 3 to 10 days. Picking or scratching these crusts is not recommended. Otherwise, infection could emerge, putting the grafts’ life in jeopardy.
