Lip augmentation is a medical aesthetic procedure applied by injecting dermal fillers into different points of the lip. Lip augmentation is one of the most widely applied medical aesthetic procedures of recent years, and it is also one of the most practical and comfortable medical aesthetic procedures that provide effective results. Lip augmentation can be applied to plump the lips, to achieve a younger appearance, to determine the contours of the lip by plumping the lip and to eliminate deformities in the lip.
Due to human nature, the upper lips have a thinner structure than the lower lips. Therefore, during the lip augmentation procedure, the volume of the upper lip is usually increased. Natural and aesthetically satisfying results can be achieved as long as a lip augmentation procedure is planned and applied individually and applied with the right techniques by specialized and experienced doctors.
Although there is no need for a long recovery period after lip augmentation treatment, following the doctor’s recommendations will both increase the comfort of the patient and ensure optimum benefit from the application. In this context, moisturizing creams recommended by the doctor should be used to keep the lips moisturized. On the other hand, it should be remembered that no cream or cosmetic product should be applied to the lips without the approval of the doctor.
How is Lip Augmentation Performed?
Lip augmentation is a medical aesthetic procedure that must be performed by specialized and experienced doctors. In order to obtain natural and aesthetically satisfying results from lip augmentation treatment, patient-specific planning should be made, that is, the injection points and the dose to be injected should be determined in accordance with the needs and expectations of the patient. At this stage, the patient’s expectations should be learned in detail, and the application should be made in a way to create a natural lip shape suitable for the facial structure.
Before lip augmentation, a cream that provides anesthetic effect is applied to the lip area. After waiting for about half an hour, lip filling can be started. In this way, the pain and pain that may be felt due to injection is minimized. After the lip area is numb, lip filler is injected into the points determined specifically for the patient and again at the determined dose. Fine-tipped needles and hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers are used during filling.
As we mentioned before, lip augmentation is not a standard application. In some patients, it can be performed only in the upper or lower lip area, while in others it can be performed including the contour area of the lip. The effect of lip augmentation begins to be noticed shortly after the injection. The patient’s lips gradually become more prominent and the volume of the lips gradually increases.
Lip augmentation is completed in 15 to 20 minutes on average. Before the injection, a cream with local anesthetic effect is applied to the patient, so the patient does not feel any pain or soreness. In addition, very fine-tipped needles are used during the procedure.
Things to Consider After Lip Augmentation
The patient’s daily life is not interrupted after lip filler injection. After lip augmentation, which is a fast and comfortable procedure, edema, swelling and discomfort may occur around the lips due to injection. The patient should not eat or drink anything for 4 hours following the lip filler injection. It is important to avoid facial expressions that may cause strain on the lips and not to apply lipstick.
Ice compresses for 30 minutes a day for a few days following the lip filler injection can increase the comfort of the patient. The creams recommended by the doctor to relax the area should be used regularly. In this process, herbal products containing vitamin K may be used to remove edema and bruising on the lips.
On the other hand, alcohol should not be used for a certain period of time before and after lip filler injection. Because drinking alcohol can cause an increase in edema. After the lip filler injection, it is necessary not to consume very watery foods and drinks for the period specified by the doctor. Also, hard chewing movements should be avoided. For 2 weeks following the lip filler injection, you should stay away from environments such as baths and saunas and avoid heavy exercises.
Why is Lip Augmentation Performed?
Thanks to the lip augmentation procedure performed using dermal fillers, it is possible to have more prominent, voluminous and natural-looking lips. Lip augmentation can help to beautify the lips and cheeks and enhance the appearance of facial features.
Facial or dermal fillers are clear hyaluronic acid gels mixed with a mild local anesthetic called lignocaine. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the human body, but its amount decreases over time. The function of hyaluronic acid in the skin is to act as a cushioning agent to deliver nutrients, moisturize, soften and plump the skin. Dermal fillers are absorbed by the body over an average period of 9 to 18 months.
Dermal fillers are often used to achieve fuller, more defined and shaped lips. In this way, thin lips can be volumized and a fuller appearance can be achieved. Dermal fillers can be injected along the edge of the lips and into the cupids’ bow to emphasize a lip line that provides a more youthful and shapely appearance.
Marionette lines are located just below the corners of the mouth and are caused by the loss of volume due to aging. It can give a sad and unhappy expression to the person’s face and pull the mouth downwards. In order to add volume to the area and soften these lines by shaping the lips, it may be preferable to inject dermal fillers just below the corner of the mouth. Cigarette lines, which are mostly vertical lines extending above and along the upper lip, can be effectively reduced with the injection of dermal fillers.
Is Lip Filler Harmful?
Dermal fillers used in lip filler injection are designed to address the area around the lips and mouth. Since they have a gel-like consistency, they hold water to give a fuller and more flexible appearance. Dermal fillers, which are not harmful to health in any way, can be used to reshape lip contours and eliminate asymmetry in the lips. Dermal fillers add volume, moisture and elasticity to the lips, softening the lines around the mouth and lips and can help achieve a more youthful appearance.
Lip augmentation is the most effective and safe method to add volume and definition to the lip area. In addition, an innovative hyaluronic acid compound is used within the lip augmentation procedure. As a result, the injected dermal fillers are naturally metabolized by the body within an average of 6 to 9 months. This also means that the results obtained from lip augmentation treatment are not permanent.
Thanks to dermal fillers, it is possible to plump the lips, define the lips and restore the lost volume in the lips. When hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers are injected into the lip area, a natural and plump appearance can be achieved.
Lips are the most technically challenging areas on the face, both in terms of injecting and correcting dermal fillers. After lip filler injection, the right product must be injected in the right amount and in a very precise tissue plane to achieve a natural and harmonious appearance of the lips. The key element at this stage is the need to achieve a result that will look good not only when the face is at rest but also when it is in motion. In order to achieve this balance, lip augmentation should be performed by specialized and experienced doctors.
