Liposuction, a procedure suitable for both men and women, can be applied to many different areas such as the abdomen, back, waist, calves, chin, upper arms, hips, knees, inner and outer thighs, ankles and neck.
Liposuction is a very suitable method for removing stubborn fat deposits in the body of people who have resistant fat accumulations in their bodies, who cannot get results with regular sports and diet, who have ideal or close to their ideal weight. It can also be applied in combination with some cosmetic surgical procedures such as abdominoplasty and breast augmentation if deemed necessary.
However, liposuction is definitely not a weight loss method. Liposuction, which is a type of cosmetic surgery, is applied to reshape the body. Liposuction, which ensures the permanent removal of fat in the application area, is a procedure that can be performed with different methods.
Wet (Tumescent) Technique Liposuction
In this procedure, intravenous fluids are injected into the application area to numb the area and reduce the risk of excessive bleeding. Fat is removed more easily as the tissue in the application area will swell and harden. After the injection of the solution, small incisions are made and cannulas connected to the vacuum machine are inserted under the skin. Excess fat is absorbed by moving the cannula back and forth.
Vaser Ultrasonic Liposuction
This procedure, in which fat cells are liquefied before being removed, is an alternative to classical liposuction. After a solution containing anesthetic substances is injected into the application area, the fat cells are fragmented using Vaser ultrasonic probes. The applied vibration ensures that the fat cells are separated, dissolved and the liquid infused into the application area is emulsified. Fluid and fat cells are removed using a small cannula. In this method, since the adipose tissue in the application area is released from the surrounding connective tissue with the help of ultrasonic waves, the patient gets a tighter and smoother skin.
Lazer Liposuction
In this method, the fat in the application area is liquefied using laser energy. It is then removed using a thin cannula. It is an advantageous method as the heat applied for the breakdown of adipose tissue tightens the existing tissues. It is a procedure performed with liposuction lasers that targets only fat cells and is specially designed to protect muscle and nerve tissue. It is generally preferred to be used in smaller treatment areas such as under the chin and inside the arm. Fats that are broken down using laser energy are then metabolically excreted through the kidneys and liver.
Before and After Liposuction
Although liposuction is an extremely effective procedure, it is very important to pay attention to some points before and after the surgery in order to achieve the most effective results. Liposuction must be performed by a specialist and experienced surgeon. The patient should follow a healthy diet and exercise regularly. In addition, blood thinners and smoking should be stopped 2 weeks before the application.
Since liposuction is a procedure performed under anesthesia, the patient does not feel pain during the application. Depending on the method used during the application, small incisions may be made. However, since these incisions are extremely minimal, the possibility of scarring is almost negligible. However, this may vary depending on the skin structure of the person.
After the liposuction procedure, the body develops a natural response to fill the treated area with fluid. Wearing a compression garment for the recommended period not only helps to reduce the pain and swelling caused by the operation, but also helps the body to take its new shape.
After the application, the patient should consume plenty of water. Since the body will be swollen for several days, plenty of fluids are needed to prevent dehydration. In order for the result obtained from liposuction to be long-term and permanent, calorie intake should be limited. Although the fat cells in the application areas are permanently removed, the expansion of the fat cells may occur.
In the early recovery period after the surgery, patient should not move. Walking at a brisk pace can reduce the risk of blood clots. However, tiring exercises should not be done for the first 4 weeks.
In the first few weeks after liposuction, the swelling in the body is expected to decrease gradually. In a few months, a slow tightening of the skin occurs. It usually takes several months to see the final result.
Liposuction is a method that can be applied not only to women but also to men. Structural features of men are different from those of women, and fat is more common in men. Although it is not possible to apply liposuction to intra-abdominal fat, subcutaneous adipose tissue can be removed by liposuction for men who have good abdominal muscles and abdominal wall, do not have muscle separation and have a lower rate of intra-abdominal fat. In addition, liposuction can be applied to have a more shaped abdominal area in men.
How Much Fat Is Removed with Liposuction?
While determining the fat that can be removed during the liposuction procedure, factors such as the age of the person, the region where the application is made and the general health status of the patient are taken into account. Under normal conditions, it is possible to remove 3 liters of fat from the waist region, 2-3 liters from the abdomen and 4 liters from the hips. However, the important point is to remove the amount of fat that will provide the most natural and proportional appearance in the patient.
