Botox is a method applied to remove lines and wrinkles occurred on the skin due to various reasons. In Botox application, a toxin obtained from a bacterium called Clostridium Botulinum is injected. The permanence of the Botox method is about 6 months, and the duration of effect may vary according to the application area and personal characteristics.

Botox is a method that can be applied in a very short time and easily. Botox method is generally preferred in the upper part of the face and covers the forehead and around the eyes. Wrinkles that occur around the eyes and forehead, especially the lines between the eyebrows, cause an older, sullen and tired appearance. Botox procedure is used to eliminate these wrinkles or to lighten them in cases where the wrinkles are very deep.

Botox method is one of the most effective methods used to remove crow’s feet, forehead lines and wrinkles around the eyes. By lifting the eyebrows and eliminating the lines between the eyebrows, the person gets rid of the tired, unhappy and old appearance. It also gives the skin a more youthful appearance. Wrinkles and lines around the nose, chin, lips and neck areas can also be treated with Botox method. Removal of pit lines around the eyes and wrinkles in the neck area due to age is possible with the Botox procedure.

How is Botox Performed?

Botox is an injection procedure. Before Botox injection, local anesthetic cream is applied to the application area. Although pain is not felt during the injection made into the muscle layer with specially designed fine-tipped injectors, it is possible to feel a slight burning sensation such as needle sticking.

Botox, which has the feature of blocking the conductive substances in the nerve endings, acts by temporarily stopping the effect of nerves and muscles stimulated by the nerves. Botox, which is effective only in the area where it is applied, causes a temporary effect only on the muscles where the application is made, not on all muscles, due to this feature.

The Botox procedure has both preventive and therapeutic properties, and the most frequently used areas are the removal of facial wrinkles and excessive sweating treatment. Depending on the continuous work of facial mimic muscles and aging, mimic lines occur over time. These lines usually appear on the eyebrows, around the eyes, on the forehead and around the lips. Deepening of mimic lines can make the person look tired, old and angry. In this case, it may be preferable to eliminate or alleviate the expression lines by applying the Botox procedure. For this, the movements of the muscles that cause the formation and deepening of mimic lines are temporarily reduced by Botox injection.

Botox injection can also be applied to areas where there are nerves that send impulses to the sweat glands for the purpose of treating excessive sweating. In this case, sweating is temporarily reduced in the relevant areas. The effect of Botox applied for the treatment of excessive sweating is about 4-9 months, and this period may vary from person to person. Botox is one of the most frequently used methods in the treatment of migraine as well as excessive sweating treatment.

When Does Botox Show Its Effect?

Although the effect of the Botox procedure begins to be seen within 48-72 hours after the application, this period may vary from person to person. It reaches its maximum effect level in 10-14 days.

The effect period of Botox application is around 5-6 months on average. As the duration of permanence varies from person to person, in case the application is renewed regularly, the duration of the effect becomes longer and it is sufficient to perform the Botox procedure at longer intervals.

Botox application should be done by doctors who are experts in their fields, experienced and who have knowledge of Botox injection technique. The patient’s expectation from the application must be learned and the conformity of this expectation to reality should be evaluated. Although Botox is a simple procedure that can be applied to almost everyone with good general health, it cannot be applied to pregnant women, women during breastfeeding, and people with muscle and nervous system diseases.

If the Botox procedure is applied correctly by a specialist, it may be possible to obtain a natural appearance without any intervention from the outside. However, if injections are made in doses much higher than what is considered normal, the movements will be reset and an artificial image may be obtained.

If the Botox application is applied to the wrong area or if the dose is injected more than necessary, some side effects may be encountered.

After the Botox Procedure

After Botox application, redness and swelling are usually seen in the application area, which is considered normal. These side effects resolve spontaneously in a short time. Some people may also experience bruising and swelling. These are side effects that go away on their own. On the day of Botox application, one should not lie face down and leaning forward too much should be avoided. It is recommended not to lie on the back for the first few hours after the procedure. Again, on the day of the application, the application area should not be touched with water, alcohol should not be consumed and sports activities should be avoided. In addition, care should be taken not to use the bath, sauna, solarium and similar very intense hot environments.
