Depending on the rapid development of technology, surgical processes performed for aesthetic purposes are much more preferred and the success rates of the processes are increasing. Nose aesthetics, in other words rhinoplasty, is a surgical procedure used both for aesthetic purposes and for the elimination of dysfunctions and deformities.
Rhinoplasty is considered to be an extremely effective method in eliminating the difficulties that arise in the respiratory processes and cause a decrease in the quality of life of the person. In order for the rhinoplasty procedure to provide a lifelong solution, the physician who manages the surgical procedure from the beginning to the end of the process must be an expert and experienced in this field.
There may be more than one reason why people have rhinoplasty. Conditions that occur with birth and cause breathing difficulties or create aesthetic dissatisfaction in the person are among the most important reasons for applying rhinoplasty. Since the combination of aesthetic disorders with respiratory distress causes the patient’s complaints to increase, the surgical procedure usually aims to solve the two problems together.
Deformities that occur after a major accident, tissue trauma or fracture may cause serious problems in the breathing function of the person. Or it may cause aesthetic dissatisfaction in the person.
How is Nose Aesthetic Surgery Performed?
The shape of the nose area is extremely important as it has the ability to change the face of the person. For this reason, the expectation should be clearly expressed in the meetings held before the procedure with the doctor who will perform the surgical procedure. Although rhinoplasty surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia, local anesthesia may also be used in cases where only the tip of the nose will be intervened. Nose aesthetic surgery can be applied with open or closed technique.
In the open rhinoplasty technique, a small incision is made in the tissue between the two nostrils. This incision allows the surgeon to observe the internal structures of the nose more easily and to perform operations more easily. The open rhinoplasty technique should be preferred so that the doctor can apply the most accurate procedure, especially in rhinoplasty surgeries where major changes will be made. Due to the high incision rate, the healing process of the tissues is longer in the open rhinoplasty technique.
The recovery period is shorter in nasal aesthetic surgeries performed with the closed rhinoplasty technique. Closed rhinoplasty is often used in surgical procedures that require minor changes. Doctors want to maximize the tissue healing rate by applying this procedure when appropriate. It is also a frequently used method as it does not leave any stitch marks and is less likely to cause infection.
Healing Process After Nose Aesthetic Surgery
It is normal to feel some pain during the recovery period after rhinoplasty. For this reason, doctors mostly prefer to apply painkillers while the patient is still under the influence of anesthesia. Regular taking of the medications recommended by the doctor during the healing process is extremely important in controlling pain and accelerating tissue healing.
It is also considered normal to have some bleeding and swelling during the healing process. It is generally recommended to lie in a position that allows the nose to be higher than the lower part of the face and body to relieve nasal pain and make breathing easier. In addition, facial expressions that will cause excessive use of mimics during the healing process should be avoided. Care should be taken to avoid situations that may cause swelling and bleeding during the early recovery period after the operation. Since the nose will be vulnerable to the harmful rays of the sun after the operation, a sunscreen cream with a protection factor of 30 or 50 should be applied to the nose to prevent color changes. Heavy sports, exercise, jogging and aerobics should be avoided for the period recommended by the doctor. Foods containing sodium should not be consumed to reduce the possibility of swelling in the face and nose area. The nose and face should be pressed with an ice pack at the rate and frequency determined by the doctor. The patient should take care to rest for a certain period of time and not to tire him/herself as much as possible. Complying with the doctor’s recommendations has an important role in experiencing a healthy and fast recovery process.
Curiosities About Nose Aesthetics
Blood thinners should be discontinued 1 week before rhinoplasty. Rhinoplasty can take between 1.5 and 4 hours depending on the nature of the problem in the nose, the surgical technique to be applied, whether the patient has had rhinoplasty before and whether there is a need for cartilage removal from the rib or ear during the surgery. Patients can return to their daily lives approximately 7-10 days after the operation. The technique to be applied is determined by factors such as the patient’s nose structure, the extent of the problem and the doctor’s preference. It is preferred to perform rhinoplasty surgery from the age when the bone and cartilage development of the patients is completed. Although this usually coincides with the age of 16 in girls and 18 in boys, the decision for the operation should be made according to the evaluations made specifically for the patient. In the open rhinoplasty technique, there is a small scar on the columella. However, the scar is very short and unnoticeable. In the closed rhinoplasty technique, there is no scar because no incision is made.
